Anonymous Society is pleased to present In Her Wake, a solo exhibition of figurative sculpture by Redding Connecticut based artist Janice Mauro. Running from September 11 through November 1, 2025, the exhibition centers on the enduring strength of women of both remembered and overlooked while exploring how the body becomes a vessel of legacy, labor, and resilience.
With a career spanning decades, Mauro brings a deep mastery of form, gesture, and material to this new body of work, where the female figure is not symbolic but fully present as anchored, powerful, and unrelenting. In Her Wake foregrounds women as agents of care, change, and continuity. Some figures rise monumentally, others rest in quiet intimacy, yet all demand to be seen. Subtle details in touch and articulation suggest the unseen work carried through generations, the shaping and sustaining of lives that form the often-unacknowledged architecture of history.
Rooted in Redding and long engaged with both fine art and public practice throughout the northeast, Mauro’s work carries both personal and collective memory. In Her Wake is not a monument to the past, but a call to witness the force of what still moves through us.
Join us at Anonymous Society for the opening reception on Thursday, September 11th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
As part of the exhibition, we will host Artful Sunday on September 21 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, in conjunction with Trailer Box Project in Bethel. Guests are invited to enjoy a morning of mimosas, pastries, and conversation with the artist, Janice Mauro.
The dialogue continues in October with an Artist Talk on Thursday, October 17, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. This will be a chance to hear directly from Mauro about her process, influences, and the threads of memory and presence that shape her practice.
